| At his home, after a long illness, having reached
the age of fifty three years and six months. Chuck, as he was known to most,
was born at Kinston, Missouri on October 12, 1949, the son of John Ed Maness,
Sr. and Beulah DeClue. On April 12, 1974, he was united in marriage to Idia
Mae Dobbs, and three children blessed this union. Chuck is survived by his wife Idia Mae DeClue of St Clair, two sons George G. DeClue and fiancé Angela Downey and Jason D. DeClue and fiancé Tiffany Andres; a daughter Helen S. Gardner and husband, Dennis; four grandsons, Matthew W. and Andrew D. Downey, Dennis “Ethan” Garner and Nikolas Hunter DeClue and his mother, Beulah Merseal (DeClue), all of St Clair and John E. Maness and wife Linda, all of Cadet; Steven L. Maness of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and John Maness Jr. and one half sister, Shirley (Maness) Gown and husband William, all of Bonne Terre; father and mother-in-law, Jacob and Helen Dobbs, Cadet; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, great aunts, aunts, uncles and nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Howard Merseal. Chuck had Christ in his life and was very much a Bible scholar. He loved to discuss the Bible with anyone and try to win them over to the Lord. He was proud to have served his country as a Sergeant in the United States
Army during the Vietnam War, entering on October 3, 1967 and receiving
Honorable Discharge on October 2, 1973. During his enlistment, he was
honored to receive many awards and citations, including Bronze Star and
a Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. Since his discharge, he has been
an active member of the St. Clair VFW Post # 2482, American Legion, Black
Hawks Association and MO State POW-MIA Color Guard. |

| I know that he completed at least two tours, one with the Blackhawks, and one with the Rattlers, but unsure of the years, I think 1967 to 1968 and then 1968 to 1969. |

| He was a member of B Troop69-70 on his second tour. He had been awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Air Medal among others. He crewed aircraft 502 most of his tour Jack Monk was his A/C.After the army he was a homebuilder/contractor in CA and later in Manchester TN. |

| He served with A Troop 68-70 and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Silver Star,Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal(19 awards), among several others. After his military retirement he worked for ten years as an aircraft inspector for Boeing. His wife and children live in ID. Info appeared in Fall 98 edition of Hawktalk. |
